Product Description
Any Sherline vertical mill can be purchased without the headstock and motor/speed control as an XYZ base. This allows lathe owners to swap the headstock and motor/speed control from their lathe to the mill in approximately 60 seconds.
About the CNC-Ready, 8-Direction Benchtop Mill XYZ Base
The Benchtop Mill XYZ base is the same base used in our 2000-series 8-direction mill. It has a 14″ base and a 13″ table, both with laser-engraved measurements. Stepper motor mounts are on the X-, Y-, and Z-axes, ready for the installation of stepper motors (Stepper motors are not included, see the STEPPER MOTOR page for information).
Travel: X=8.65″ (220 mm), Y= 7.0″ (178 mm), Z=5.38″ (137 mm)
CNC-Ready XYZ Bases
Included with the CNC-ready XYZ bases are three low-mass 1-5/8″ handwheels. If using Sherline or other dual-shaft stepper motors, the handwheels can be mounted to the rear shaft to provide manual control in addition to CNC control. (NOTE: Manual control is not possible on CNC-ready bases until a dual shaft stepper motor has been installed. Handwheels cannot be installed directly onto the stepper motor mounts.) These slides have been popular items in the industry to control movement in small production line processes, and the addition of computer control extends the possibilities for automation. Travels of each of these CNC-ready bases are the same as for the manually-controlled versions.
NOTE: CNC-ready machines cannot be operated manually unless double-shaft stepper motors are installed.
