Product Description
Starting in early 2014, Sherline added backlash adjustment on the lathe crosslide to all new lathes. This kit is available to retrofit any earlier Sherline lathe. Based on a similar design used for years on the mill X- and Y-axes, it uses a round, knurled brass lock nut on the leadscrew that is tightened against the side of the saddle to pull against the threads in the slide screw insert. This takes out excess play in the threads to adjust backlash to the desired amount. Once adjusted, a knurled lock wheel secured by a button head screw keeps the lock nut from turning. The upgrade kit includes a drill guide block to help you locate the hole that will need to be drilled and tapped in the lathe saddle.
NOTE: This upgrade will not work on our mills. It could be used on the X-axis. However, there is not enough material on the mill saddle to drill and tap the 8-32 hole on the Y-axis.
